Box Score
BROWNWOOD - The LeTourneau YellowJacket women's soccer team returned to the pitch on Friday afternoon as they hit the road to take on the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets. LeTourneau was able to take the early lead, but could not withstand it as three consecutive goals gave Howard Payne the 3-1 victory.
Both teams had opportunities in the first half, but neither squad could find the back of the net. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Kemper was terrific early on as she picked up four saves in the half to keep the score even.
The YellowJackets (1-14, 1-8 ASC) got some bad news in the early part of the second half as a red card was given and left LeTourneau with 10 players on the field for the rest of the match.
However, that did not faze LeTourneau as junior Katie Plunk took advantage of a poor clear and put away her first goal of the season to give the YellowJackets a 1-0 lead.
Howard Payne (5-7, 5-4 ASC) responded three minutes later as Leslie Jones took a free kick in the box and put away the equalizer.
Shortly after, Howard Payne took the lead as Lauren Wilmer put a goal away from outside the 18 and then got one more from Rebecca Lamar to pull away and take the win.
Plunk had the big goal of the day while freshman Maggie Judd added two shots including one on goal to pace the offense. Kemper had seven saves on the day.
LeTourneau is back at it tomorrow as they have a tough test on the road at the No. 3 team in the nation, Hardin-Simmons. First kick is set for 1 p.m.
