Division I Foe Northwestern State Too Strong for Jackets

Box Score

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket men's basketball team took to the road for a tough contest on Monday afternoon as they battled Division I opponent Northwestern State. The Demons proved to be too much for the Jackets as they took a 102-52 win.

LeTourneau took an early 6-4 lead as they got a layup from junior Justin Jones and free throws from freshman Ladaria Brown and junior Chad Williams. That was the last lead the Jackets would see as Northwestern State went on a 20-2 run to take a 24-8 lead midway through the first half.

The Jackets fought back as they trimmed the deficit down to 10 points after a jumpshot from senior Kendrae Carter, but the Demons finished the half strong, taking it right at the Jackets and holding a 54-27 lead at the break.

Northwestern State used the second half to pull away as LeTourneau struggled from the field, shooting only 31% compared to 43% in the first half. The Jackets were able to get many different players into the game as they took the loss to the Southland Conference powerhouse.

Carter led the way with 11 points while Jones added 10 points and six rebounds. Freshman Chris Hynes led the team with four assists. LeTourneau shot 36% from the field and 13% from the three point line. They turned the ball over 24 times and were outrebounded 53-29.

The Jackets return home on Saturday as they will be back in American Southwest action. They welcome in the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys with tipoff set for 3 p.m. Fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the Jackets, but if you can't make it, you can watch the game for free on letuathletics.tv.
