CONWAY, Ark. -- After securing the Blue Division title in its first season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, LeTourneau men's basketball had three players named to the All-SCAC team as the conference season announced its award winners Saturday at the conference tournament in Conway.
Jackson Mayes garnered first team honors,
Teigan Edwards was selected to the third team, and
Logan Brinkoeter earned honorable mention.
All-SCAC teams were voted on exclusively by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
Mayes --Â a graduate student from Waller, Texas -- averaged a career-best 20.1 points per game this season, ranking second in the SCAC in the category. Mayes added 4.7 rebounds per game, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals. LeTourneau's leading scorer recorded three 30-plus scoring outbursts this season, including a career-high 41 against Concordia Texas on Feb. 3 and had 20 double-digit games. Mayes scored 24 points in LeTourneau's SCAC Tournament semifinal loss to Concordia Texas on Saturday and was named to the All-Tournament team.Â
In his career, Mayes totaled 1,126 points -- ranking 19th all-time in program history. He is a two-time all-conference selection.
Edwards, a senior from Lindale, Texas, earned his first career all-conference nod. The guard averaged a career-high 14.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.3 steals per game. He was a two-time SCAC Defensive Player of the Week (Nov. 17 and Feb. 2) while ranking second in the league in steals per game and was third in assists per game. Edwards scored a career-high 30 points vs. Concordia Texas on Feb. 3 and nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists in a win over Austin College on Jan. 31. He had 19 games with double-digit points. Edwards finished fourth in the SCAC in 3-point percentage at 43.0 percent (40-of-93).
Edwards finished his career with 657 points, and 237 assists.
Brinkoeter, a junior from Georgetown, Texas, notched his first career all-conference honor. The junior started a career-high 24 games and averaged career-highs in points (10.8) and rebounds (7.6) while shooting 54.2 percent from the field. Brinkoeter was a two-time SCAC Defensive Player of the Week and totaled 10 double-doubles on the year. He had a stretch of five straight double-doubles at one point during the season.
Brinkoeter finished sixth in the SCAC in rebounding and had the second-most double-doubles in the league.
LeTourneau finished 17-9 overall and claimed the program's first SCAC regular season title with the Blue Division crown. LeTourneau recorded a winning record for the ninth time in the last 10 seasons and it was the eighth time in the same span the YellowJackets have won at least 17 games.
