BELTON - The LeTourneau YellowJacket men's tennis team returned to the courts on Saturday as they traveled to Georgetown and Belton to take on Southwestern and Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Jackets continued their great start by rolling by the Pirates and Cru with 9-0 victories.
In the first match against the Pirates, the No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Kendall Beggs and Sindre Johnsgaard dominated their opponents, winning 8-1. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Carlos Cantu and freshman Laird Beaty and the No. 3 team of junior Josh Bailey and freshman Michael McLaughlin both rolled to 8-4 wins to sweep the doubles competition and take a 3-0 lead.
From there, all six players in singles dominated to straight set wins starting with a 6-0, 6-0 win by Cantu at No. 1 singles. Johnsgaard followed him up with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles followed by a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles by Beaty. Bailey, Beggs, and McLaughin finished the Pirates as they cruised to victories for the 9-0 sweep.
The Jackets then traveled to Belton to take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in an American Southwest Conference matchup. Bailey and McLaughlin got LeTourneau on the board with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles followed by an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles by Beggs and Johnsgaard. Cantu and Beaty completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles as the Jackets took a 3-0 lead.
Johnsgaard cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and Beggs clinched the match at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. From there, LeTourneau rolled at Cantu, Beaty, and McLaughlin all took straight set victories. Bailey won one of the more exciting matches of the day at No. 5 singles as he defeated Josh Martin, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6 to complete the sweep.
LeTourneau goes to 5-1 on the season and have been dominant in all of their wins this season. They now have three straight 9-0 victories. They will return for their home opener on Tuesday as they take on Jacksonville College. First serve is set for 3 p.m. from the Davis Tennis Courts.
