BELTON - The LeTourneau YellowJacket women's tennis team got back on the road on Saturday as they traveled to Georgetown and Belton to take on Southwestern and Mary Hardin-Baylor. The two teams proved to be too tough for the Jackets as they both took 9-0 wins.
In the first match, it was all Southwestern in the doubles matches as they cruised to a 3-0 lead. In No. 1 singles, junior Sarah Case took on Aimee Blake, but fell for the first time this season in singles, 6-4, 7-5, in a highly competitive match.
Junior Shelby May also put together a great match against Virginia Stofer at No. 3 singles, but fell short in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The match of the first game was at No. 4 singles where junior Kayla Bonina took on Kristina Krampitz. After dropping a close first set 7-6, Bonina responded by taking the second set 6-3. However, Krampitz was able to pull out the win and the sweep, 10-6.
In the second match, the Cru rolled through doubles and really took control in the singles matches. The best match again came out of No. 3 singles where May took her opponent, AshLee Bilbo, to three sets. May dropped the first set 6-3 before responded to take set two 7-6. The two went back and forth in the final set, but Bilbo took the victory, winning 10-6.
The Jackets will return to Davis Courts in Longview on Tuesday as they will take on Jacksonville College. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
