LONGVIEW - The LeTourneau YellowJacket women's tennis team returned home on Tuesday afternoon as they welcome in the Jacksonville College Jaguars to Davis Tennis Courts. The LeTourneau women fought for their first win of the season, getting great performances, but fell just short, dropping the match 5-4.
Things got rolling in doubles action where the No. 2 doubles team of junior Kayla Bonina and freshman Nell Spencer led the Jackets to their first point of the day, defeating the Jaguar duo of Kerri Kirkpatrick and Kaila Parker, 8-4 and winning their last three games to take the match.
The No. 3 doubles team of freshmen Brittany Cowan and Victoria Zhang also came up big to by defeating Caitlin Renson and Kaitlin Walden by a score of 8-5 for a 2-1 lead heading into singles competition.
Bonina and Zhang carried momentum from their big doubles wins to singles as their play showed for it. Bonina was on fire as she ripped Parker in No. 4 singles by a dominating score of 6-0, 6-2. Zhang also came up huge, crusing to a win over Walden at No. 6 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
However, despite some great play, LeTourneau could not overcome a strong attack by the Jaguars as they pulled off the rest of the singles matches for the win.
The Jackets will continue to look for their first victory as they take hit the road to take on Dallas Baptist. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
