Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket baseball team hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Centenary Gents in a non-conference matchup. The Gents were able to get 16 runs in the first four innings to knock off the Jackets, 16-6, on Tuesday evening.
After leaving two runners on in the first, Centenary (13-4) took advantage of the Jackets struggles on the mound by scoring eight runs on only three hits and one error to take the early advantage. The Gents continued to add runs throughout the next three innings to increase their lead to 16-0.
The Jackets (10-5) were not going to go down quietly, getting a pair of runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth thanks to two RBIs from junior Chris Bertram and RBIs from freshman Jared O'Neal and junior Dustin Varnado; however, Centenary maintained the lead and took the 16-6 win.
Despite the Jackets struggles on the mound, junior Jordan Price was a bright spot in relief, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings while only allowing three hits and striking out one. Freshman Jack Van Saders took his first loss of the season.
Offensively, senior Jay Lutz produced a 3-for-4 while sophomore Jon Lewis was 2-for-2 and junior Garrett Methvin was 2-for-4. The Jackets did put together 13 hits, only two behind the Gents, but grounded into three double plays.
The Jackets will look to rebound this weekend as they travel to Clinton, Miss. for ASC action against the Mississippi College Choctaws. The teams will start a three game series on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
