LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau baseball senior reliever
Cruz Cox was named to the ABCA All-Region X third team, announced the organization on Tuesday.
It is the first career All-Region award for Cox and he becomes the first primary reliever to earn region accolades in the program's NCAA era (since 1999). It is the fourth straight year LeTourneau has had at least one player earn All-Region honors.
A senior from Longview, Texas, Cox had a career-best season as the YellowJacket closer. He earned All-SCAC honorable mention and set a program record with 10 saves on the year -- which currently ranks second in Division III. The right-hander compiled a 1.33 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP across 17 appearances and 20.1 innings. He limited the opposition to a .230 batting average and struck out 15.
Seven of those saves came in SCAC regular season play to help LeTourneau to a second-place finish in the league standings.Â
Cox's 10 saves added to his career total of 16, which established a program record. Cox was named to the SCAC All-Tournament team after notching two saves and throwing 4.1 scoreless innings over three appearances as the YellowJackets made a run to the championship round.
LeTourneau ended the year 26-19 overall, marking the second most wins in the NCAA era and the most since 2014.
