LONGVIEW - The LeTourneau YellowJacket men's tennis team took back to the courts on Saturday morning as they welcomed in the Millsaps Majors out of Jackson. The Jackets took home a big win on their home courts, knocking off the Majors 7-2 to improve to 8-1 on the season.
The key wins came in double competition, where the No. 3 team of junior Josh Bailey and freshman Michael McLaughlin picked up an 8-1 win over Sean Solomonoff and Thomas Mills. Shortly after, sophomores Kendall Beggs and Sindre Johnsgaard took home a win at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, over Charles Rees and Mis Pjevac.
The No. 1 doubles team of senior Carlos Cantu and freshman Laird Beaty battled with an extremely tough duo of Malte Schick and Adam Tilly. The two teams battled back and forth, but Cantu and Beaty prevailed to sweep doubles, winning 8-6.
The match of the day was at No. 1 singles where Cantu and Schick went toe-to-toe in an epic battle. Cantu prevailed over Schick in a three set thriller, 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 to put the Jackets in complete control of the match where his teammates eventually picked up the team win.
Also in singles, Bailey at No. 5 and McLaughlin at No. 6 cruised to victories over their respected opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-3 each. Johnsgaard also picked up a win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
LeTourneau is off to one of its best starts in school history and look to keep that trend going next week as they take on Birmingham-Southern on the road. First serve is set for Friday at 1 p.m.
