BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket tennis team traveled to Birmingham on Friday afternoon to take on the Panthers in a non-conference battle. Despite a great effort in many different matches, the Jackets fell 9-0 to the Panthers on their home court.
In doubles, LeTourneau got a great effort from their No. 1 team of juniors Shelby May and Sarah Case. However, they fell short to the BSC team of Moya Moore and Terria Punturo by score of 8-4.
Case squared off with Moore in a great match at No. 1 singles. Moore took the first set 7-5 before Case battled back to take the second 6-4. It all came down to the tiebreaker where Moore was able to edge Case and take the win, 10-6.
It was a similar battle at No. 3 singles where junior Kayla Bonina took on Sara Cohen. Bonina dropped the first set 6-2, but came back strong in set two to win 6-4. Again, it all came down to a tiebreaker where Cohen took the win, 10-6.
LeTourneau will take a couple days off to travel down to Mobile for Spring Break as they will do battle all day Monday, taking on the University of Mobile at 1 p.m. before returning to action to take on Spring Hill at 3 p.m.
