BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket men's tennis team was back on the courts on Friday afternoon as they looked to extend their six game winning streak against the Birmingham-Southern Panthers.
In a matchup that featured the No. 15 team in the Atlantic South and the No. 16 team in the West, Birmingham-Southern got the best of LeTourneau as they outlasted their opponents 6-3.
The Jackets did drop two in the doubles competition, but got a huge win from a pair of freshmen in Michael McLaughlin and Morgan Weaver. The No. 3 doubles duo were in a see-saw battle with BSC's Patrick Hire and Ben Reardon, but the Jackets prevailed, knocking them off 9-7.
McLaughlin continued his great play into singles competition, where he took on Blake Nuwayhid. McLaughlin lost his first set 6-3, but responded with a win in set two by score of 6-3. The two players were even throughout the final tiebreaker set, but McLaughlin prevailed, defeating Nuwayhid 13-11.
Sophomore Kendall Beggs was terrific in singles competition, defeating Christian Matthews easily, 6-4, 6-3. However, it was not enough as the Panthers picked up some key points to take the win.
The men fall to 8-2, but hit the road for Spring Break as they will return to the courts Monday with a 1 p.m. tilt at the University at Mobile followed by a 3 p.m. match against Spring Hill.
