CLARKSVILLE, Ark. - With the Jackets down 4-1 in the middle of singles competition, it was the lower half of the lineup, No. 3-6, who came up huge for the LeTourneau men's tennis, picking up four straight wins for a 5-4 ASC win over the Ozarks Eagles.
It all started at No. 2 doubles where the Eagles got a win and then turned around and took a close on at No. 1 doubles for the 2-0 lead. The No. 3 doubles team of junior Josh Bailey and freshman Michael McLaughlin came up with a monumental point, winning a thrilling match, 9-8.
However, the Eagles carried their doubles momentum into singles, winning No. 1 and No. 2 singles for a 4-1 lead. Sophomore Kendall Beggs had dropped his first set at No. 3 singles 6-2 and it looked as though the Ozarks were going to earn a victory. However, Beggs responded by taking a 6-4 win in the second set and closed the match with a huge 7-5 win to swing the momentum into the Jackets favor.
From there, sophomore Sindre Johnsgaard destroyed his opponent at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-0 followed by a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles by Bailey. McLaughlin closed out he win and completed the comeback at No. 6 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
The Jackets improved to 13-5 on the season and 2-2 in the ASC for their gutsy performance. They are back at home on Thursday at 4 p.m. as they welcome in the Louisiana College Wildcats for an ASC matchup.
