MARSHALL - The LeTourneau YellowJacket women's tennis team returned to action on Thursday as they took on their rivals, the East Texas Baptist Tigers, in American Southwest Conference action. The Jackets were able to come out strong after a long rain delay and rolled past the Tigers, winning 7-2.
The No. 1 doubles team of juniors Sarah Case and Kayla Bonina got things started with a dominating 8-1 win. It was the first time this season the two were paired together as a team as they move to 1-0. They were followed up by the No. 3 doubles team of senior Miranda Lamb and freshman Nell Spencer as they took a 2-0 lead in the match with an 8-5 win.
ETBU was able to get a match to make it 2-1, but junior Shelby May got things going at No. 2 singles, defeating her opponent 6-0, 6-2. Case followed that up at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win while Bonina clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles.
Lamb picked up a win at No. 4 singles by score of 6-1, 6-3 while Spencer wrapped things up with an 8-2 win at No. 5 singles for the 7-2 victory.
The Jackets improve to 1-1 in the ASC as they will return home on Saturday. The Jackets will keep ASC play going as they welcome in Louisiana College to Davis Tennis Courts. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
