LeTourneau Rallies to Defeat Centenary, 3-2

Box Score The LeTourneau University women's soccer team scored twice in the second half to defeat host Centenary College, 3-2, in Shreveport on Tuesday evening.

The YellowJackets (1-6) ended a six-game losing streak with the win, which were playing with just nine players on the field. The win is the first for LeTourneau head coach Jamie Lindvall, who took the reign of the program in January.

"I continue to be incredibly proud of these women," said Lindvall. "To quote John Wooden, 'Winning is the icing on the cake but it should never be mistaken for the cake.' It was great to get a win today but I am far more proud of the character and buy in that our women continue to show day in and day out. Three beautiful goals and the win are just the icing."

Centenary (2-4-1) went ahead in the 11th minute when Amanda Atwell scored but an aggressive LeTourneau offensive attack came together and eventually tied it just before half. The YellowJackets tied the contest in the 43rd minute when freshman Stephanie Vana scored the first of two goals to give the visitors some momentum as they headed into overtime.

The YellowJackets seized the lead in the 57th minute when Vana scored her second goal of the night and less than three minutes later, freshman Raylene Gould scored on a pass from freshman Ashley Gleghorn in the 60th minute for a 3-1 advantage.

The Ladies got a goal in the 86th minute for the final margin; however, it was stellar all-around play by the YellowJackets that propelled them to the win.

LeTourneau goalkeeper sophomore Jamie Aguillen made four saves and Vana paced an attack with a team-best seven shots.

Next, LeTourneau will travel to Memphis for the Rhodes Classic, where they will play host Rhodes on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. and Millsaps on Sunday, Sept. 22 at noon.
