YellowJackets Come Up Short in 62-61 Loss to Ozarks

Box Score A 3 pointer with four seconds to play by LeTourneau came up short in a 62-61 loss to the University of Ozarks in an American Southwest Conference contest on Thursday night in Solheim Arena.
 
The YellowJackets (7-10, 5-9 ASC) were led by freshman Meagan Peters, who scored a career-high 11 points off the bench to lead a balanced effort. 11 different YellowJackets had a hand in the scoring in the loss.

The 11 points from Peters led a dominating effort from the LeTourneau bench, who outscored the Lady Eagles by a 30-13 margin in the defeat. Senior Julencia Curtis nearly had a double double with eight points and 10 rebounds for LeTourneau.

The Lady Eagles (7-11, 7-8 ASC) landed three players in double figures including Kindra Davis, who had a double double, scoring a game-high 13 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds in the win. She was joined in double digits by Taylor Farmer and RaShelle Goodman, who added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Following a three-point halftime deficit, 37-34, LeTourneau scored the first four points of the second half on back-to-back baskets by Curtis to gain a 38-37 advantage. Later in the half, the YellowJackets went on an 8-3 spurt to stretch the margin to eight, 51-43, with 14:39 to play after Curtis made a pair of free throws. The Lady Eagles answered the spurt with a 9-0 to take a 54-53 lead with 9:01 to play. It was the first lead by Ozarks since the opening seconds of the second half.
 
The contest went back and forth for the rest of the contest and LeTourneau went up by as much as four, 61-57, with 4:14 to go when junior Rebecca Stewart hit a jumper. Again, Ozarks had an answer to the LeTourneau lead as they scored the final five points of the game to come away with the win. Neither team would score in the final 2:46 of the contest.
 
The YellowJackets will remain at home for its next contest when they host the University of Texas-Tyler on Saturday, February 1 at 1 p.m. The Comets hold a half-game advantage for first place in the American Southwest Conference with a 15-3 overall record and 13-2 mark in the ASC.
