LeTourneau Loses to University of Texas-Dallas, 75-52

Box Score Four members of the University of Texas-Dallas scored in double digits en route to a 75-52 win over the LeTourneau University men's basketball team.
 
The YellowJackets (4-18, 3-16 ASC) were led by sophomore Josh Thornton, who scored a team-best 14 points on the strength of three 3-pointers. He was joined in double digits by sophomore Ladaria Brown and sophomore Giovanny Thompson, who each had 11 points. For Thompson, it is a season high.
 
The Comets (21-2, 19-1 ASC) clinched the regular season American Southwest Conference title with the win. Kyle Schleigh scored a game-high 17 points to lead University of Texas-Dallas. Carter Nash, Nolan Harvey and Matthew Medell each added 13 in the win. In the win, UTD shot 50.9% (27-for-53) from the field and 81% (17-for-21) from the free-throw line.
 
A 3 pointer by Thornton gave LeTourneau an early 3-2 lead with 18:39 left in the first half before a Schleigh field goal regained the lead for the Comets for the rest of the contest. LeTourneau would draw as close as one – 9-8 - when Thompson made a layup for the YellowJackets with 14:30 left in the first 20 minutes.
 
UTD answered the threat with 12 unanswered points for a double-digit lead for the rest of the contest. UTD went into the halftime break with a 44-24 lead on the strength of 28-6 advantage in points on the paint.
 
A 16-6 spurt to start the second half for the YellowJackets cut the UTD lead to as little as 11 – 51-40 - in the second half with 13:47 to play. The Comets came back with a 20-4 run to keep LeTourneau from drawing closer.
 
The YellowJackets return to Longivew for two of its next three games, starting with a matchup against Howard Payne on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. inside Solheim Arena.
