YellowJackets Fall to Sul Ross State, 73-65 on Senior Day

Box Score The LeTourneau University men's basketball team dropped a 73-65 decision to Sul Ross State on Senior Day on Saturday.
 
The YellowJackets (5-19, 4-17 ASC) were able to four in double digits in the contest in the defeat. Junior Aaron Frizell paced LeTourneau with 17 points. He was joined in double figures by senior Justin Jones, who scored 15 in his final home game, sophomore Ladaria Brown and junior Josh Thornton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.
 
The Lobos (11-14, 10-12 ASC) were led by the 19-point effort by Percy Settle. Sul Ross State outscored LeTourneau by a 39-2 margin on points from the bench in the win. Settle was joined in double figures by Luke Taylor, who added 13 and Dominic Countee and Ryan Hagan each scored 10.
 
LeTourneau held a 29-26 lead when Thornton made a layup with 6:02 to play in the first half; however, Sul Ross State scored the next seven-points to take a lead that they would never relinquish. The Lobos went into the halftime break with a 39-32 lead on the strength of a 51.6% shooting effort from the field.
 
Late in the second half, LeTourneau clawed back to within three, 62-59, on a 3-point field goal by Brown with 6:37 to play. However, the Lobos had an answer to the threat when Hagan hit a 3 pointer for the visitors. The YellowJackets would be as close as four in the final four-plus minutes in the loss.
 
Next, LeTourneau will wrap up its season on Monday with a 7:30 p.m. tilt in Marshall against East Texas Baptist University. Earlier this year, ETBU defeated LeTourneau, 71-66 on November 26 in Longview.
