LeTourneau Men's Tennis Edges TLU, 5-4

A sweep of the doubles proved to be the difference as the LeTourneau University men's tennis team defeated Texas Lutheran University, 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.

The YellowJackets (8-3) started the match with victories in all three doubles matches. Laird Beaty/Kendall Beggs at No. 1 doubles and Sindre Johnsgaard/Morgan Weaver at No. 2 doubles won their matches by a score of 8-3. Josh Bailey and Michael McLaughlin teamed up for the first time on the spring at No. 3 doubles for an 8-5 win.

Texas Lutheran picked up a pair of wins in third-set tiebreakers at No. 4 and 5 singles but it was victories at No. 2 and 3 singles by LeTourneau that proved to be enough for the win. At No. 2 singles, Laird Beaty won by a 6-3, 6-2 margin and at No. 3 singles, Sindre Johnsgaard was victorious, 6-2, 6-2. The win by Beaty extends his winning streak to six and Johnsgaard has won eight of his last nine matches.

The YellowJackets will host a pair of matches on Saturday, Mar. 22 when they welcome ASC member, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 11 a.m., followed by a 5 p.m. non-conference contest against Southwestern University at the Davis Tennis Courts.
