LeTourneau Loses to Ozarks, 6-3

The LeTourneau University men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Ozarks on Friday to snap a three-match winning streak for the YellowJackets.

The YellowJackets (6-2, 3-1 ASC) fell behind 3-0 when they Eagles took all three of the doubles matches. It was the first time in 2013-14 that the YellowJackets had failed to win a doubles match.

"Ozarks played strong doubles today and that made the difference in the match," said LeTourneau head coach Suzanne Merritt. "We played some great singles matches but came up short in the final outcome.  We had some good singles wins and fought hard on every court so I feel confident we will be prepared for the next round of conference matches."

LeTourneau and Ozarks split the six singles contests with each winning three. Junior Kendall Beggs won his sixth-straight No. 1 singles match – despite dropping the first set for the first time on the spring – 0-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Sophomore Laird Beaty stretched his winning streak to three with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. The third win for LeTourneau came at No. 5 singles with sophomore Morgan Weaver winning an exciting tilt. The Jacksonville, Texas native was victorious 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) to win his fifth-consecutive match on the spring.

The YellowJackets will now travel to Gulf Shores, Alabama for Spring Break where they will play three matches. While in the Gulf Shores, they will face Hendrix on Mar. 9 at 10 a.m.; Transylvania University on Mar. 10 at 4:30 p.m. and wrap up the trip with a 10 a.m. contest against the University of Mobile on Mar. 11 at 10 a.m.
