Box Score 2 The LeTourneau University baseball team closed out the regular season with a pair of extra-inning wins over the University of the Ozarks (7-3 – 8 innings, 7-6 – 10 innings) as they secured the program's first-ever American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament appearance.
The YellowJackets (28-12, 22-11 ASC) will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed after pulling off its fifth series sweep of the conference season. In each game, LeTourneau withstood late rallies by the visitors to win the game in extra innings. For the season, LeTourneau is 5-1 in extra-inning games.
Game 1 LeTourneau built a 3-0 lead through the first five innings and junior pitcher
Cody Whitley had allowed just one hit until Ozarks tied it in the bottom of the fifth.
With the game tied at 3, in the eighth inning,
Caleb Pritchett started the inning with a single down the left-field line. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Bryce Henry; then, he moved to third on a wild pitch.
After a walk to
Sean Sellers put runners on the corners for
Chris Bertram, who emptied the bases with a two-RBI into the gap in left center. Then,
Garrett Methvin stretched the margin to four with a two-run home run, scoring
Chris Bertram.
Senior
Kirby Cantalamessa, who bypassed his own graduation ceremonies to be with his teammates, pitched the final 2.2 innings for the win. Cantalamessa allowed two hits and struck out four for his first win of the season.
Eight YellowJackets contributed to an 11-hit attack including three by Methvin and two more from junior
David Perkins. Sophomore
Dillon Yates had a two-run home run in the fifth inning that had put LeTourneau ahead 3-0.
Game 2LeTourneau had its third-straight, double-digit hit attack in a 7-6 win in 10 innings to complete the series sweep.

Jordan Price combined to pitch the final four innings and allowed just one hit to silence the Eagles bats.
Ozarks took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first until LeTourneau scored three times in the second, twice in the fifth and once in the sixth for a 6-1 lead. The Eagles rallied to tie the game in the sixth with five runs on six hits.
Each team posted a threat as the YellowJackets stranded the bases loaded in the seventh. The Eagles had the bases loaded with one out when Price entered the game. The senior rose to the occasion and got a strikeout and a fly out to end the ninth.
Sean Sellers was hit by a pitch to start the 10th inning. Then, he moved to second on a wild pitch. After the Eagles got an out, they elected to intentionally walk,
Garrett Methvin to put runners on first and second for
Ryan Bertram. Next, Bertram singled up the middle to score Sellers from second for what proved to be the difference. Price shut down the Eagles in order in the 10th including back-to-back strikeouts to end the contest.
Next, at the ASC Baseball Championship Tournament, LeTourneau will face Louisiana College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Tornado Field on the campus of Concordia University in Austin.
