For just the third time in program history, the LeTourneau University women's soccer team has advanced to the upcoming American Southwest Conference Tournament.
The YellowJackets enter the conference tournament with an 8-7-1 mark and as the No. 5 seed, where they will face UT Dallas for the third time in 2015. It is the first tournament appearance for LeTourneau since making back-to-back appearances in 2005 and 2006. LETU second year head coach
John Antonisse has developed a strong offensive front that has recorded 23 goals in 16 games. The 23 goals are the most since a 27-goal season back in 2009.
Anchoring the offensive front have been a trio of players – freshman
Keely Hayden, sophomore
Kennedy Keer and junior
Stephanie Vana. Hayden leads the offense with eight goals including a pair of hat tricks (three goal games). Hayden became the first LETU player since Erica Sudeck in 2006 with multiple hat tricks in a season. Keer and Vana each have three game-winning goals in 2015 to lead LeTourneau. The LETU defense is led by freshman goalkeeper
Bridey Davis, who has seven wins including four shutouts to her credit to go along with 84 saves. Davis does not do it alone with support from the rest of her defensive unit that is a combination of newcomers and returnees.
Tuesday's meeting will be the third matchup in 2015 between the two teams. The two teams began the 2015 campaign with a matchup on Sept. 1 in Longview with the Comets prevailing 1-0 in overtime. The conference tilt was played on Oct. 17 with UT Dallas coming away with a 4-0 decision in Richardson.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Fans unable to make it to Richardson can follow the game online through live
stats and
video.
