LETU Men's Basketball Loses in Exhibition Game to Rice, 102-78

A 21-6 run to start the game led host Rice University to a 102-78 win over the LeTourneau University men's basketball team in an exhibition game on Saturday in Houston.

LeTourneau was well supported with eight players from the Houston area that gave a home feel to the exhibition game for the YellowJackets.

The YellowJackets were facing the Division I team from Houston to start the season for the second-straight year. LeTourneau outscored the host Owls by a 51-49 margin in the final 20 minutes. Sophomore Alec Colhoff in his LETU debut led the YellowJackets with a double double, scoring 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. He was joined in double digits by senior CJ Edwards, who scored all of his points in the second half and junior Jeff Martin, who added 16 and 11 points, respectively. LETU hit 17 of 33 three pointers in the loss, making them at a 51.5% clip. Colhoff accounted for seven 3-pointers and Edwards added four.

The Owls had five in double digits including Marcus Evans, who had a game-high 24 to lead Rice. He was joined by the double double performance by Egor Koulechov, 23 points and 10 rebounds, plus Connor Cashaw added 17 and Marquez Lechter-Ellis and Bishop Muncy each had 11.

Now the attention will turn to the games that will impact the win-loss column, starting with a 4 p.m. tilt on Saturday, Nov. 14 at home against Austin College at Solheim Arena.
