Box Score The University of Texas at Tyler posted a 5-3 win over the LeTourneau University baseball team on Friday night.
The Patriots (22-9) scored a run each in the fifth and in the sixth for the win. Three-different players - Logan Tucker, Garrett Nelson and Derick Smith each had two hits in the win. UT Tyler starting pitcher Jaime Paxton allowed 10 hits, and struck out 11 in the win to improve to 8-2. Chad Hayes worked out of a bases loaded jam in the ninth for his ninth save.
The YellowJackets (10-11) pounded out 12 hits against three UT Tyler pitchers in the loss. Ryan Bertram had three hits to lead the attack; plus Sean Sellers, Taylor Empkey and David Perkins each added two. Jordan Carns pitched seven innings in the loss, scattering eight hits and striking out four in the loss to fall to 3-2.Â
LeTourneau got on the board in the first inning after a one out double by Empkey. Next, he came around to score on a RBI single by Bertram for the early 1-0 lead.

Bryce Henry single in the second inning scored
Kyle Jacobs, who singled to start the inning to stretch the lead to 2-0.Â
UT Tyler got on the board in the fourth inning on three runs on three hits for a 3-2 lead. Two of the runs came in on a Sam Lane single with two out. Then, a RBI ground out by LeTourneau's Dillon Yates tied the game in the fifth inning at 3. The Patriots regained the lead in its half of the fifth with a RBI single; then they added an insurance run in the eighth.
In the ninth, the YellowJackets loaded the bases but Hayes dodged the threat with his third strikeout of the inning to end the game.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a twinbill on Saturday at noon.
