Kayla Ronda, a junior on the volleyball team took home the LeTourneau Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor Award for the 2014-15 season exemplifying an outstanding record in leadership, academics and athletics.
Canaviri served as co-captain during his final two years and played in 54 games as a YellowJacket. He recorded 32 shots including four goals and assisted on two more. 60% of his shots have been on goal for his career. He headed in a goal, during his senior season, in the tie against Concordia. He scored his first career goal in the 4-1 rout of McMurry during his freshman season. On three occasions, he has been named to the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team. In the fall, he was named to the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete All-Academic Team. Off the field, Canaviri has been involved in Bible Studies and Mission Trips at LeTourneau University with his classmates. He will graduate with his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, later this year.
Ronda, who will wrap up her junior year of athletic eligibility this spring, will earn her bachelor's degree in marketing in three years in a few weeks. Twice, the Chandler, Arizona native has been named to the American Southwest Conference All-Academic Team for her efforts in the classroom and All-Conference for her efforts on the court. Earlier this year, she was named to the ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete All-Academic Team and was the conference's Co-Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. She enters her final year of eligibility already in graduate school and on the court in the top five all-time in service aces, kills, attempts and block assists.
By virtue of the award, the two receive the American Southwest Conference Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor.
