Box Score LeTourneau softball dropped the series opener 12-5 to Belhaven University on Friday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Blazers put up 12 runs on 12 hits in the game while LeTourneau finished with nine hits and just five runs. LETU left nine runners on base.
Belhaven got on the board first with a two-run second inning. BU got two singles in the inning to bring home the early runs.
Madison Gray would answer for the YellowJackets with a double in the top of the third inning to score
Courtney Matulis from first base.
LeTourneau (13-22, 8-20 ASC) would tie the game in the top of the fourth inning as
Ashlin Roach led off the inning with a solo homerun over the left field fence. After
Alyssa Pierce was hit by a pitch, a sacrifice bunt from
Bailey Woodard and a sac fly from
Kaitlyn Allen would put her in scoring position. Pierce would score on a wild pitch to give LETU a 3-2 lead.
Belhaven responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, but it wouldn't last long. A Woodard double thru the left side scored Pierce and Roach to put the YellowJackets back on top 5-4.
The Blazers took control in the bottom of the sixth inning as they scored eight runs on five hits to take a commanding 12-5 lead into the final stanza.
LeTourneau tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases with just one out. But, the comeback fell short as they couldn't bring any runs across in the final half-inning.
Faith Genoway falls to 8-9 on the season after allowing four earned runs on seven hits. The sophomore had three strikeouts and forced seven ground outs in her five-inning effort.
The YellowJackets will complete the series with a Friday doubleheader set to start at 12 p.m.
