LeTourneau men's and women's tennis each lost dual matches to Belhaven 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Davis Tennis Courts.
The Belhaven men came in ranked No. 13 in the Atlantic South region and earned wins at No.1 and No.3 doubles to take an early 2-1 lead. The duo of
Jimmie Henson and
Robby Bundy earned an 8-5 win at No.2 doubles. The Henson/Bundy combo are now 2-3 on the season.
Henson also earned a hard-fought win at No.2 singles. After trailing by a set, the Sunnyvale, Texas native won the second set 6-2 to force a deciding third set. The third set would go to a back-and-forth tiebreaker where Henson would dig deep for the 13-11 victory. It was the seventh win of the season for the sophomore.
Robby Bundy made quick work of his match at No.4 as he defeated Belhaven's Devonte Thomas 6-0, 6-2. The junior improves to 5-8 overall on the season and earned his first win at the fourth position.
Ty Grove played tough against a ranked opponent at No.1 singles. BU's Rene Ramos is ranked 18
th in the Atlantic South region and was 13-0 coming into the match. Grove fell 6-1, 6-2 to Ramos in the match.
The YellowJacket women led 2-1 heading into singles play as
Hayley Hunter and
Lauren Rockwell earned their fourth win of the season at No.2 doubles. Their 8-6 victory came against the duo of Terry and Furdge from Belhaven.
Cherish Farmer and
Mikayla Thomas won their No.3 doubles match by default. Thomas also earned a win at No.6 six singles by default.
LeTourneau will be back on the court Friday morning for conference matches against UT Tyler. The UTT women are ranked 12
th in the West Region while the men are ranked sixth in the region and 17
th in the nation. Friday's matches are set to start at 9 a.m. at the Davis Tennis Courts.
