LeTourneau University men's tennis fell 5-1 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the opening round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday in Tyler.
It was the third meeting for the two teams this season but the first completed match as the two regular season matches were rained out.
Â
The Cru took a 1-0 lead at No. 2 doubles with an 8-4 win. LeTourneau would answer back with a victory at No. 1 doubles as the duo of senior
Ty Grove and freshman
Christian Farris earned the 8-5 decision. It was the ninth win of the season for Grove and Farris at the top line for the YellowJackets.
Â
LETU trailed the Crusaders 2-1 after doubles play. In singles play,
Ty Grove battled at the No.1 line but fell 6-1, 6-0 to UMHB's Scott Wilding. His fellow senior
Kevin Warren was playing at No.5 singles and dropped his match 6-1, 6-1 to the Cru's Daniel Riner. UMHB would seal the victory at the No.4 slot and move on to the semifinal match on Friday.
Â
This marks the end of the 2016-17 campaign for the LeTourneau men's tennis program as they finish 6-12 and make their fourth consecutive ASC Tournament appearance. It also was the final match for three YellowJacket seniors playing for the last time in a LETU uniform. Seniors
Curtis Martin,
Kevin Warren, and
