Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas - The LeTourneau University YellowJackets defeated the Lions of Southwestern Assemblies of God University 2-1 in their home opener. This is the first time in history YellowJacket women's soccer has opened the season 3-0 in consecutive seasons.
The YellowJackets first goal came in the flow of the game when freshman
Katherine Baker found sophomore
Gina De La Garza at the corner of box. De La Garza was able to find the back of the net from distance to put the YellowJackets up 1-0 in the 20th minute.
In the second half, Freshman
Ali Saldana would play a long, impact pass to senior
Kennedy Keer. Keer was able to beat the keeper by chipping the ball back post to secure her first goal of the season and the YellowJacket lead.
Despite a lightning delay, the YellowJackets were able to tame the Lions 13 shots to one goal by Lauryn Cabudol. Senior goal keeper
Carrye Funk held down the goal by recording seven big time saves.
The YellowJackets will return to The Joyce Family Athletic Village on the campus of LeTourneau University Friday, September 8, 2017 at 7:00 against the University of Dallas Crusaders.
