LETU Men's Tennis Sweeps Sul Ross State

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The LeTourneau University men's tennis team would rebound from two close losses on their three-match road trip with a convincing 9-0 sweep of Sul Ross State University in a neutral-site match played in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday, March 11th. 

LETU is now 2-5 overall this season, with both wins coming in non-conference action over American Southwest Conference West Division schools while the Lobos fall to 1-10 overall. 

"We had three days of strong competition from our players on this road trip" said head coach Suzanne Merritt in a post-match interview. "Today we had to play smart in tough and windy conditions after two days of long, close matches." "Our players showed a lot of determination and focus today to get the team win and we are starting to see things we want to continue to work on as we get ready for our upcoming matches."

Two of the three doubles matches would be 8-0 victories for the YellowJackets with Christian Farris and Jimmie Henson teaming up at No. 1 doubles and Dale Wallace and Collin Patterson coming together for a No. 3 doubles victory. LeTourneau would also manage to win the No. 2 doubles match with Zac Crowley-Kurth and Robby Bundy earning an 8-6 win. 

All six singles matches would be won by LETU athletes in straight sets, with Farris starting things off with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 singles match saw Henson take a 6-3, 6-3 decision while Bundy would win at No. 3 singles by the same score of 6-3, 6-3. Crowley-Kurth (6-2, 6-1) Patterson (6-1, 6-1) and Wallace II (6-1, 6-0) would also go on to win their singles matches to give the YellowJackets their first 9-0 sweep of the season. 

LETU will begin a five-match home stand on Tuesday, March 13th with an 11:30 a.m. match against Texas Lutheran University.
