Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas - In their final scheduled non-conference match before the start of American Southwest Conference play, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Friday, March 23rd.
The match, which took place a little more than one month after the originally scheduled date, leaves LETU with a 3-9 overall record while SU improves to 6-5.
Despite dropping all nine points on the evening, the YellowJackets would keep things close throughout starting in the doubles matches which saw
Christian Farris and
Jimmie Henson fall by a score of 8-6 at number one doubles. The number two doubles match saw
Robby Bundy and
Zac Crowley-Kurth end up on the wrong end of an 8-4 decision while
Nash Best and
Dale Wallace fell by a score of 8-1 at number three doubles.
Two of LETU's six singles losses came in three sets, with Henson battling back at number two singles before falling 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 and Crowley-Kurth dropping a 6-4, 6-7 (7-4), 10-8 decision at number four singles. Farris and Bundy both fell by a scores of 6-0, 6-1 at number one and number three singles in their respective matches, while Best lost a 6-0, 6-0 match at number five singles. Closing out the match would be
Cameron Wall, who would be unable to carry over momentum from his win on Thursday at number six singles, falling 6-0, 6-0.
Next up for the YellowJackets will the American Southwest Conference opener on Friday, April 6th at 9 a.m. when the YellowJackets travel up the road to Tyler, Texas to take on the University of Texas-Tyler. The match will be part of NCAA Division III Week, with an exhibition match against Jacksonville College taking place earlier in the week on Tuesday, April 3rd at 6 p.m.
