LeTourneau Women's Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision To Austin College

Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. – Playing their first of three matches on the weekend, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team would face a 2-1 deficit following a tiebreak loss at number doubles and would fall by a final score of 7-2 to Austin College at the Cockrell Tennis Center in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, February 23rd.

LETU now sits at 0-2 to start the season while the Kangaroos picked up a victory in their 2019 season opener.

How It Happened:
An 8-2 defeat at number two doubles would put the YellowJackets in a 1-0 hole before a strong response from the doubles duo of Katharine Waldthausen and Maddison Brackenreg at number one doubles would knot the match at 1-1 with an 8-6 set victory. LeTourneau would then have a chance to take a lead after the doubles matches but would see Samantha Trevino and Lauren Rockwell fall 8-7 (7-4) in the number three doubles match following a tiebreaker.

With the momentum swinging in favor of the 'Roos, Austin College would pick up an injury retirement win at number four singles after Bailey Deatherage would be tied 3-3 with Kirsten Weber while Murray would fall 6-2, 6-1 at number three singles. Needing a victory to avoid the match being clinched, Rockwell would be unable to pull out a victory at number five singles and would fall 6-1, 6-2 before Waldhausen would earn a 6-3, 6-2 win at number two singles. Brackenreg would nearly pull out a tiebreak victory at number one singles, falling 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 in three sets to Diana Carvajaline before seeing Trevino fall 6-2, 6-1 to finalize the match.

What's Next?
LeTourneau will get two opportunities to pick up a win on Sunday, February 24th with matches against Millsaps College and Centenary College beginning at 10 a.m. The YellowJackets will face off against the Majors at 10 a.m. before taking on the Ladies at 3 p.m. with both matches taking place in Shreveport, LA.
