Men's Tennis Grabs 6-3 Neutral-Site Victory Over Austin College

Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. – Looking to bounce back from last Sunday's defeat in their 2019 season opener, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team would earn wins in five of the six singles matches to go along with a win at number one doubles to earn a 6-3 victory over Austin College at the Cockrell Tennis Center in Shreveport, Louisiana on Saturday, February 23rd.

The victory allows LETU to move to 1-1 overall on the season while the Kangaroos drop their 2019 season opener to fall to 0-1 overall.

Three tight matches would be seen in doubles play as Paulo Cressio and Nathan Schmidt would fall by a score of 8-4 at number two doubles before Jimmie Henson and Christian Farris tied the match at 1-1 with an 8-6 win at number one doubles to leave the number three doubles match to determine an early lead. In the final doubles match of the day, Bobby Clark and Jeffrey Golladay would be unable to overcome the duo of Preston Spivey and Safe Rahman in an 8-5 defeat which gave AC a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.

A quick start at number four singles and number two singles saw the YellowJackets secure two points to take a 3-2 lead as Schmidt would earn a 6-3, 6-2 victory and Farris would win 6-4, 6-4. The 'Roos would then tie the match once again by earning a 6-2, 6-4 victory at number three singles over Cressio but see Clark allow LeTourneau to reclaim the lead with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win at number one singles by Henson. With two matches to play and one point needed by the YellowJackets to secure the match, Clark would grab a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number six singles to give LETU the win while Golladay would earn a 5-7, 6-2, 6-0 come from behind victory at number five singles to end the match. Both tie-breaker matches would prove pivotal on Saturday as the YellowJackets would be able to win both three-set matches in what would be the difference in the team score.

Returning to Shreveport on short rest, LeTourneau will take on Millsaps College at 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 24th followed by a 3 p.m. match against Centenary College later in the afternoon. Both matches will take place at the Cockrell Tennis Center in Shreveport.
