Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, LA – After dropping their first match of the day to Millsaps College by a final of 7-2, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team would earn a 9-0 victory over host Centenary College to split a pair of matches in Shreveport, Louisiana on Sunday, February 24th.
Four matches into the 2019 season, LeTourneau now sits at 2-2 overall while the Majors improved to 4-0 going into a match against Austin College this afternoon. The Gents dropped both of their Sunday matches to fall to 0-3 overall on the season.
Against Millsaps, tiebreakers would be the undoing of the YellowJackets in doubles action as the double's duo of
Jimmie Henson and
Christian Farris as well as the number three doubles team of
Bobby Clark and
Jeffrey Golladay would fall 8-7 after a tiebreaker would determine the matches. Henson and Farris would go to extra points before falling in their tiebreaker 11-9 while Clark and Golladay fell 8-6 in their match tiebreak. The Majors would also go on to take an 8-5 decision at number two doubles over
Paulo Cressio and
Nathan Schmidt to hold a 3-0 lead going to singles action.
Singles play saw Millsaps pick up a quick point as Henson would retire from his number one singles match due to injury after dropping the first set 6-1 before seeing Farris get LeTourneau on the board with a 7-5, 6-0 victory at number two singles. The match would be clinched by Millsaps as Cressio would fall 6-4, 6-2 at number three singles and Golladay dropping a 6-0, 6-1 decision at number five singles. LeTourneau wouldn't have much time to recoup as their match against Centenary would start less than an hour after their match with the Majors, but determination would take over for the YellowJackets as LETU would go on to drop just two games in doubles action on their way to a 3-0 lead. Farris would team up with Schmidt at number one doubles for an 8-2 victory while Clark and Golladay (number two doubles) as well as Cressio and
Cameron Wall (number three doubles) both managed to win their matches by a score of 8-0.
With momentum in their favor, LETU didn't take any chances in singles play as Schmidt (6-0, 6-0) and Clark (6-1, 6-0) picked up two quick points to secure the match with wins at number two and number three singles before Farris would pick up his second singles victory of the day with a 6-2, 6-1 win at number one singles. Cressio would earn his first singles win of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number five singles and would be followed up by a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four singles for Golladay and 6-0, 6-1 win at number six singles by junior
