Women's Tennis Goes 1-1 In Sunday Doubleheader Against Millsaps, Centenary

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, La. – Falling by a score of 9-0 to Millsaps to kick off the morning, the LeTourneau University women's tennis team would bounce back with a 9-0 victory over Centenary College to go 1-1 overall in a pair of Sunday matches in Shreveport, Louisiana on February 24th.
 
With two weeks of the season now complete, LeTourneau improved to 1-3 overall while the Majors picked up their fourth win of the year to stay perfect at 4-0. Centenary would drop both contests that they played on Sunday to fall to 0-3 overall.
 
In their match with the Majors, LeTourneau would see Samantha Trevino and Hannah Moore fall by a final score of 8-0 at number three doubles while Terin Murray and Lauren Rockwell dropped an 8-1 decision at number two doubles. The number one doubles match featuring Katharine Waldthausen and Maddison Brackenreg would nearly go in LeTourneau's favor before Millsaps would pull out an 8-6 decision to go up 3-0.
 
An injury would allow the Majors to pick up a victory at number two singles with Brackenreg retiring while down 4-1 while Waldthausen would drop a 6-3, 6-4 decision at number one singles. Murray would play two close matches at number three singles before ultimately falling 7-5, 6-3 while Rockwell nearly forced a third-set tiebreaker in a 6-1, 7-5 defeat at number four singles. The other two singles matches for the YellowJackets saw Trevino fall 6-0, 6-1 at number five singles and Moore drop a 6-0, 6-0 decision at number six singles.
 
Against the Ladies, LeTourneau would find smooth sailing in doubles action with Trevino and Moore along with Waldthausen and Brackenreg earning 8-1 victories at number three and number one doubles. Murray and Rockwell would complete the doubles sweep for LETU with an 8-0 victory at number two doubles and put LETU in prime position to win the match going to singles play.
 
Things would fare equally as well for LeTourneau throughout singles play as Waldthausen earned an injury retirement victory at number one singles while Brackenreg took a 6-1, 6-0 decision at number two singles to clinch the match. Murray would go on to win by a score of 6-2, 6-0 at number three singles while Rockwell would drop just one set in a 6-0, 6-1 win at number four singles. Trevino picked up her first singles win of the year with a 7-5, 6-1 win at number five singles while Mimi Samdi would win her season debut at number six singles by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
 
LeTourneau will next be in action on Friday, March 1st with a 2 p.m. match against Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. The Yellow Jackets are 0-3 following a 2-6 defeat to the University of the Ozarks in non-conference action on Saturday morning.
