LONGVIEW, Texas - Following more than a week off to prepare, the LeTourneau University men's tennis team will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor in the 2019 American Southwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. at the Davis Tennis Courts in Longview on Thursday, April 25th.
LETU earned the right to host the 2019 postseason tournament after finishing ASC East Division play a perfect 4-0 and will take on the Crusaders who enter as the number four seed from the west division with a 7-6 overall record.
The YellowJackets will be looking for their first postseason win since the 2014-15 season when LeTourneau nocked off Hardin-Simmons University by a score of 5-4 in the opening round of the 2015 ASC Championships which were held in Tyler, Texas by the University of Texas-Tyler.
This will mark the 13th time since 2010 that LETU and UMHB have squared off in men's tennis and is believed to be the second time that the two have met up in postseason play. Last time LeTourneau and Mary-Hardin Baylor faced off in the postseason, it was the Cru who would take a 5-1 victory over the YellowJackets in the opening round of the 2017 ASC Men's Tennis Championships as UMHB has won the past five matchups between the two teams. LeTourneau's last win against UMHB came on March 22nd, 2014 in a 7-2 victory over the Cru.
In the other quarterfinal matches scheduled to take place on Thursday in Longview, East Texas Baptist and Hardin-Simmons will officially kick of the tournament with a 9 a.m. matchup and will be followed by ASC West Division champion Concordia Texas taking on Louisiana College at 11:30 a.m. Thursday's third quarterfinal features Texas-Dallas and the University of the Ozarks which is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first-serve and will precede the LETU vs. UMHB.
The winners of the first two quarterfinal matchups are scheduled to square off on Friday, April 26th at 10:30 a.m. while the two advancing teams from the final two quarterfinal matchups will play at 2 p.m. on Friday with a spot in the ASC Tournament Championship on the line. Winners of the two Friday matches will then meet up with an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships on the line iwth first serve scheduled for 11 a.m.
