ABILENE, Texas -- Six LeTourneau University men's tennis players advanced to the finals of the American Southwest Conference Fall Invitational Friday.
"I am very proud of the play by all of our lineup today," LeTourneau coach
Suzanne Merritt said. "It was a great opportunity to see where we are, and what we will be working on next. We had some great results, and we are looking forward to the finals tomorrow."
In men's doubles,
Jimmie Henson and
Christian Farris beat St. Thomas' Lopez and Ware, 8-4, in the A draw. In the B draw,
Nathan Schmidt and
Rodrigo Vazquez Chairez lost to Hardin-Simmons University's Lopez and O'shea. In the C draw,
Julian Lee and
Jonah McGinty beat Howard Payne University's Denardo and Blanchard, 8-2.
In men's singles, Henson lost to HSU's Nathaniel Schoendorf, 6-0, 6-1, in the A bracket. Farris defeated UMHB's Brian Martin. Farris also defeated HSU's Desmon O'Shea, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7, in the B bracket. In the C draw, Schmidt beat HPU's Dominic Denardo by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Schmidt also defeated HSU's Holt Fields, 6-2, 6-3.
In the D draw, Rodrigo Chairez defeated McMurry's Zach Miller, 6-1, 6-3. Chairez defeated St. Thomas' Tyler Head, 6-0, 4-6, 10-5. In the E draw, Lee defeated HPU's Ben Blanchard, 6-1, 6-0. Lee beat Schreiner's Karson Kirk, 7-5, 1-6, 10-4. In the F draw,
Paulo Cressio defeated Schreiner's William Ueckert, 6-2, 6-1. Cressio lost to HSU's Dia Ndumbe, 6-0, 6-1.
In the H draw,
Jeffrey Golladay defeated HPU's Jonathan Villarreal, 6-3, 6-2. Golladay also beat McMurry's Chris Causer, 6-3, 6-4. In the I draw, Gavin Myer defeated East Texas Baptist University's Matt Fuhr. Myer lost to Schreiner's Christopher Corbett, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2). In the J draw,
Miles Grubbs advanced to the finals with a third-set tiebreaker win over Keenan Nash from HSU.
In the K draw,
Collin Patterson was defeated by UHMB's Ty Marshall, 5-7, 6-3, 10-5. McGinty beat Dylan Bryant of McMurray, 6-1, 6-0. In the L bracket,
Dale Wallace defeated McMurry's Manuel Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-2.Â
Samson Segovia was defeated by Concordia's Noah Villareal, 6-2, 6-1.
Larry Torres lost to McMurry's Brynson Harmon, 6-0, 6-2.
James Langley was defeated by Concordia Texas' Jacob Naiser, 6-0, 6-0.
On the women's side, doubles were not played due to rain.

Maddison Brackenreg lost to Concordia's Cassandra Cabrera, 6-2, 5-7, 10-7, in the A draw. In the B draw,
Samantha Trevino lost to HSU's Landry Laywell, 6-0, 6-0. In the C draw,
Summer Apostalo lost to HSU's Maddie Hammond, 6-0, 6-1. In the D draw, Sierra Linssen was defeated by Schreiner's Marlee Daniel, 0-6, 6-1, 10-5.
In the E draw,
Mimi Samdi lost to McMurry's Mandy Roberson, 6-0, 6-0. In the F draw,
Savannah Orton lost to HSU's Emily Shaffer, 6-0, 6-0. In the G draw, Amber VanDuyn beat MHBU's Synder Andersen, 6-2, 6-0. Vanduyn was defeated by HSU's Priscilla Schimming, 6-2, 6-1. In the H draw,
Hannah Moore defeated HPU's Zaylie Sanchez, 6-1, 6-2. Moore fell to HSU's Emily Kite, 6-0, 6-0. In the I draw,
Sophie Hill defeated Schreiner's Ashley Mena, 6-3, 6-0. Hill lost to HSU's Abigal Kendall, 6-0, 6-0.
"We played a great day of tennis," Merritt said. "We won several close matches. It was good for me to get to see how prepared everybody was for the tournament. They fought hard through the heat and the rain delays. It was a long day of good tennis for us."
