RESULTS
GEORGETOWN, Texas -- LeTourneau University's
Jonah McGinty and
Paulo Cressio each delivered a couple victories at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Friday.
McGinty beat McMurry's Trey Fambrough, 6-3, 6-4, in the opening round of the D singles bracket. He then advanced to Saturday's semifinals with a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over Texas Lutheran's Johari Draminga.
Cressio defeated St. Thomas' Dorian Cudina, 6-3, 6-2, in his opening round match of the C bracket. He fell to Austin College's Tate Nelson, 7-6 (10-8), 6-0, in the quarterfinals.
Cressio and
Jeffrey Golladay paired for an 8-2 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Brandon Huckabee and Robert Galligan in the C doubles quarterfinals. The YellowJackets tandem lost in a great semifinals battle to Southwestern's Kyle Brown and Tyler Norman, 8-7 (7-4).
In the A singles draw,
Julian Lee defeated McMurry's Chase Daniel, 3-6, 7-5, 10-2, in the opening round. He fell to 30th-ranked and top-seeded Jordan Pitts of Trinity, 6-1, 6-3.
Nathan Schmidt lost to fourth-seeded Angelo Yasuro Ito Toast of Ozarks, 6-4, 6-2.
Jimmie Henson dropped his match to Hardin-Simmons' dia Ndumbe, 6-4, 6-4.
Christian Farris fell to Trinity's fifth-seeded Cameron Krimbell, 6-4, 6-2.
In the A consolation bracket, Henson and Farris each won by default. Schmidt lost to Ashwin Vaithianathan of the University of Texas at Dallas, 0-6, 6-0, 10-7.
In the B bracket,
Miles Grubbs lost to Austin College's Preston Spivey, 6-2, 6-2. In the C draw, Golladay fell to Schreiner's Austin Cervantes, 1-6, 6-3, 10-5.
Gavin Meyer dropped his D bracket match to Schreiner's top-seeded William Ueckert, 6-2, 6-3.
In the B consolation bracket, Grubbs advanced after his opponent withdrew. Golladay was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Centenary's Divine Martin in the C consolation bracket.
In the E bracket,
Dale Wallace beat East Texas Baptist's Colton Berryhill, 6-0, 6-1. He dropped his quarterfinals match to TLU's Josh Bowman, 6-0, 6-3.
Collin Patterson fell to Texas Lutheran's top-seeded Simon Carandang, 6-3, 6-1.
In the D consolation bracket, Meyer beat Johnathan Villarreal, 6-4, 6-3. In the E consolation bracket, Patterson lost to UHMB's Ty Marshall, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 12-10.
Wallace and Patterson lost their D doubles semifinals match to Bowman and Carandang, 8-3.
Play will continue Saturday with singles matches for the YellowJackets.
