Box Score LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University men's tennis team defeated Hardin-Simmons University, 6-3, Saturday to finish the home weekend.
"It was a sweet win," LETU coach Suzanne Merritt said.
Julian Lee and Patrick Baney beat Alex Pavkovich and Desmond O'Shea, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles. Rodrigo Vazquez Chairez and Nathan Schmidt defeated Joshua Lopez and Davyn Williford, 8-4, at No. 2. Miles Grubbs and Jonah McGinty picked up a win against James Moore and Chris Beavers, 8-6, in the third position.
Lee fell to Pavkovich, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Vazquez Chairez defeated O'shea in the first set, 6-4, lost in the second set, 6-3, but was able to secure a win, 6-4, in a No. 2 singles showdown. Baney beat Moore, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5), at No. 3. In the fourth position, Schmidt captured a win against Lopez in the first set, 6-4, but lost in the second set, 6-1, before winning in the third set, 13-11. Meyer fell to Beavers, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 5 position. Jeffrey Golladay lost to Williford in the first set, 6-4, but defeated Williford, 7-5, before losing in the final set, 10-4.
The YellowJackets improve their overall record to 4-1 on the season.
LETU will travel to Spring, Texas Friday to face off against the University of St. Thomas-Texas in a match rescheduled from earlier this season.
