Box Score LONGVIEW – LeTourneau University women's tennis team fell to Schreiner University, 7-2, Saturday in the first match of their home doubleheader.
The YellowJackets picked up a pair of exciting doubles match points, but weren't able to secure any singles points, and ultimately fell to the Mountaineers.
LETU was able to pick up two match points at the top two flights in doubles play. Bailey Deatherage and Summer Apostalo defeated Jennifer Garcia and Victoria Morales, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Sierra Giesen Linssen and Julia Miller beat Blair Drought-Villarreal and Katelyn Ruiz, 8-6, in the No. 2 position. Brandy Weems and Amber Van Duyn lost to Lindsey Reynolds and Rachel Rompel, 8-4, at the No. 3 slot.
But the momentum after pairs play wasn't transferred onto the singles courts.
Deatherage lost to Garcia, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1 singles. At the No.2 position, Giesen Linssen fell to Morales, 6-1, 6-1. Apostalo was defeated by Drought-Villarreal, 6-1, 6-0, at No.3 singles. In the No. 4 slot, Weems lost to Rompel, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 5 singles, Miller was beat by Ruiz, 6-4, 6-1. Van Duyn lost to Kylie Nutt, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), in a hard fought singles battle at No. 6.
The Jackets fell to 1-4 on the season, prior to Saturday's second match against Hardin-Simmons.
