Men's Basketball Michael High, Director, Sports Information

MBB travels to #22 Hardin-Simmons Thursday

LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU men's basketball five-game road stretch culminates with a pair of American Southwest Conference games in Abilene, Texas, beginning with a 6:30 p.m. tip against No. 22 Hardin-Simmons at the Mabee Complex.

The game will be broadcast on live stream and the ASC Network App, which is available on Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire.

LETU (9-2, 4-2 ASC) concluded its non-conference schedule with a 99-84 New Year's Day victory over Austin in Sherman, Texas. The YellowJackets went 32 of 72 from the floor, including 13 of 32 from three-point range. They hit 22 of 29 attempts at the free-throw line, which are season highs in both categories. LETU's defense swatted away 10 field-goal attempts by the 'Roos, the most against any opponent on the campaign. Every available player saw action and contributed to the scoring column, with only one not securing a rebound.

Freshman forward Caedmon Liebengood paced the YellowJackets in his first career start with a 36-point, 12 rebound performance. Andrew Eberhardt chipped in with 25 points, five assists, three boards, a block and steal. He has 10 double-digit scoring games this season, reaching the 20-plus plateau four times. Justin Moore, made his first start in over a year due to a season-ending injury, converted 3 of 4 attempts from the field, including 2 of 3 from distance. He finished with 10 points, three assists and a board in 19 minutes.

Hardin-Simmons leads the all-time series 19-7. The teams have alternated victories in the last five meetings with each team winning on the other's home court. The Cowboys claimed a triumph in last season's only tilt, an 894-78 decision in Longview Jan. 7, 2021. Eberhardt led the YellowJackets, which had eight players from this season's squad see action, with 24 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Head Coach Matt Brackett, – a 2007 Hardin-Simmons graduate – has his team atop the American Southwest Conference standings at 10-1 overall, including 6-0 in league play. His squad returns to the court after an 18-day hiatus during Christmas. Their current eight-game winning streak equals LETU's mark set to open the year as the longest in the conference.

The Cowboys average 85.3 points, 42.3 rebounds, 16.5 assists, 14.9 turnover, 9.3 steals and 4.5 blocks per game. They make 48.7 percent of their shots from the field, 33.2 percent from three-point range and 68.7 percent at the free-throw line. Defensively, Hardin-Simmons holds its opponents to 38.3 percent from the floor, including 27.4 percent from distance.
