Men's Soccer Opens ASC Tournament at HSU on Tuesday

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The No. 6 seeded LeTourneau men's soccer team opens the ASC Tournament on Tuesday night at No. 3 seeded Hardin-Simmons in the quarterfinals.

Tuesday's winner moves on the semifinals to take on No. 2 seed Concordia.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

  • LeTourneau (7-6-4) got into the tournament after winning its final three matches of the regular season. The YellowJackets defeated Ozarks, 2-1, on Oct. 22 followed by a 2-1 win over Sul Ross on Oct. 27 and a 2-0 victory over Howard Payne on Oct. 29. LeTourneau ended the conference season with a 3-4-2 record.
  • The YellowJackets are making their eighth tournament appearance all-time and fourth in past five seasons.
  • Hardin-Simmons and LeTourneau met earlier this year in Abilene with HSU taking a 1-0 win.
  • LeTourneau enters the tournament on a three-match win streak, its longest winning streak of the season. The YellowJackets had an unbeaten stretch of eight straight earlier in the year.
  • Russell Gray was named the ASC co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday night. Gray notched three goals last week, including two game-winners, to lead LeTourneau to a 2-0 week. Over the last three matches, Gray has four goals and he leads the team with seven scores on the year.
  • Defense has been the name of the game all year for LeTourneau. The YellowJackets lead the ASC in team goals against average at 1.00 and in shutouts with seven. Individually, Raul Torrez is second in the ASC with four shutouts.
  • Hardin-Simmons (6-8-3, 5-4 ASC) enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Cowboys have dropped three of the last four matches, including a wild 4-3 loss to UT Dallas on Saturday night.
  • Jakob Fiol was the ASC co-Offensive Player of the Week with Gray on Monday and he leads HSU with 11 goals on the year.
