ASC CHAMPIONSHIPS CENTRAL

LONGVIEW, Texas – LeTourneau women's basketball opens up American Southwest Conference tournament play Thursday at 12 p.m. as it takes on UT Dallas at East Texas Baptist.
ETBU, located in Marshall, Texas, will be the host site for the women's basketball ASC Championship tournament.
The YellowJackets are making its seventh overall and third consecutive appearance in the tournament, coming into the contest as the fifth seed with a 13-8 overall record and 10-6 in the ASC. UTD, the No. 4 seed coming into the game, is 13-7 overall and 12-5 in ASC play, making its 16
th consecutive appearance in the ASC Championships.
LeTourneau and UT Dallas met last season in the quarterfinals with the Comets coming out on top, 62-55. In its last meeting between the two back on Feb. 15, LETU edged UTD on its home floor with a 76-73 victory.
The winner of this quarterfinal game between LETU and UTD will go on to face off against the winner of the No. 8 Belhaven and No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor matchup Feb. 25 at 5 p.m.
About LETU
The YellowJackets come into the contest after winning three of its last four games to close out the regular season. The Jackets offer one of the most explosive offenses in the league, averaging 69.6 points per contest. LeTourneau's offensive charge is led by the No. 1 scorer in the conference,
Keauna Whitfield. Whitfield had an average of 18.5 points per game throughout the regular season.
Allaira Jones is another feature of the YellowJackets offensive firepower, averaging 13.7 points to be the No. 4 ranked scorer in the league.
Malacia Guy and
Ajanae Thomas are also key contributors to the scoring efforts, tallying 12.6 and 10.8 points per contest, respectively. Jones leads the league in rebounds per game at 8.8, while Guy paces the league in assists and three-point field goals made with a 5.5 and 2.2 average, respectively. On the defensive end, Whitfield and Guy set the standard for the Jackets, leading the squad in steals with 80 total steals amongst the two guards. LETU is ranked second in the league in blocked shots for the regular season with Jones spearheading that category with 1.4 blocked shots per contest.
About UTD
The Comets of UTD enter the game after wrapping up its regular season in the win column, defeating Ozarks, 57-53. UT Dallas is fosters in the second ranked scoring defense in the ASC, holding foes to 58.3 points per game. UTD's tenacious defense has accumulated over 200 steals this season led Anna Jeffereson-Polk, who averages 2.2 steals. Outscoring opponents by 6.8 points a game, the Comets are led by the No. 3 ranked scorer in the league in Paris Kiser. Kiser boasted a 15.3 points per game average throughout the regular season and was money from the charity stripe, leading the American Southwest Conference with a .849 percentage. Jordan Rudd controls the pace of the offense, leading the ASC in assist/turnover ratio and the squad with 3.8 assists per game to sit at No. 3 in the conference. On the boards, Jefferson-Polk and Rudd set the tone, snatching down 5.7 and five rebounds per game, respectively. McKenzie Howard leads the team in rejections with 13 total, while Rudd has 10 blocks of her own.
