Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – LETU men's tennis team lost its first match of the PTR Spring Fest in South Carolina Monday, falling to Asbury, 6-3.
The YellowJackets jumped out to an early 2-1 lead over Asbury after doubles play.
Ryan Holloway and
Nathan Schmidt took down Tanner Sparks and Felipe Penuela, 8-3, at No. 3.
Rodrigo Vazquez and
Miles Grubbs dropped a point to Rodrigo Cavero and Luiz Hartkopf at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. At the top position,
Julian Lee and
Patrick Baney gave LeTourneau the slight lead over the Eagles, edging Gregorio Ingles and Duarte Teixeira, 8-7 (7-4).
LETU fought hard in singles play, but Asbury collected points in the last four positions to secure a match victory.
Vazquez lost to Ingles in the top slot, 6-2, 6-0. Holloway downed Cavero at No. 2, 6-4, 6-4. In the third position, Baney fell to Joseph Lewis, 6-3, 6-2. Schmidt lost at line four against Alejandro Caceres, 7-6 (6-4). Sparks defeated
Andres Urretia at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1.
Alex Barrero battled tough at the sixth position, winning the first set, 7-5, before falling in the final two, 6-4, 10-6.
The YellowJackets will continue play at the PTR Spring Fest Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. as it faces off against Nichols.
