Box Score 2 GEORGETOWN, Texas – LETU men's tennis dropped two matches Friday at Southwestern University, losing to Concordia in the first match, 6-3, and falling to Southwestern 7-2 for its first losses of the season.
In match one against Concordia, LeTourneau's
Nathan Schmidt and
Ryan Holloway tallied the first point of the contest at No. 3 doubles, defeating Evan Pena and Jorge Garcia, 8-4. The YellowJackets would take a 2-0 lead when
Julian Lee and
Patrick Baney beat CTX's Joshua Bode and Adrian Munguia at the top flight, 8-6.
Concordia's Estaban Arredondo and Andres Padilla outlasted
Rodrigo Vazquez and
Miles Grubbs, 8-7 (8-6) at No. 2 doubles. LeTourneau led 2-1 moving into singles play.
Vazquez fell to Bode, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1 singles, tying the contest at two. Holloway won at the No. 2 slot against CTX's Arredondo, 6-2, 6-4, giving LeTourneau the 3-2 advantage. The Tornados collected the final four matches to claim the match victory. Concordia's Pena beat Baney at No. 3, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). At the fourth spot, Schmidt loss to Garcia, 6-4, 6-1.
Andres Urretia battled at No. 5 singles, falling to Padilla, 6-4, 6-4.
Alex Barrero fell to Nico De La Pena at No. 6, 6-4, 6-4.
Southwestern's Hunter Bajoit and Jared Burton got on board first in the second match, beating Vazquez and Grubbs at No. 2 doubles, 8-2. The YellowJackets' Schmidt and Holloway evened the score at the No. 3 slot, taking the second point of the match after defeating Oscar Roy and Carlos Esteban Rodero, 8-3. The Pirates' Vesko Lekovic and Hemanshu Rambojun beat Lee and Baney at No. 1 doubles, 8-6.
LeTourneau trailed 2-1 after doubles action.
Vazquez lost at No. 1 singles to Bajoit, 6-1, 6-2. Holloway downed Lekovic for his second singles victory on the day, 6-2, 6-3. At the third spot, Schmidt dropped the first set to Anton Borovik, 6-4, before bouncing back to secure the second set win, 6-4, ultimately falling in the decisive set, 10-8. Urretia lost to Steven Tibbetts, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4 singles. Southwestern's Roy beat Barrero at the fifth flight, 6-1, 6-0. At No. 6 Grubbs lost to Daniel Haley, 6-1, 6-0.
The YellowJackets return to the court Saturday at 12 p.m. as it heads to Kerrville, Texas to take on Schreiner.
