Men's Tennis Downs Celts

Andres Urretia tallies victory at No. 5 singles vs. UST.
Box Score LONGVIEW, Texas – LETU men's tennis capped off its regular season with a non-conference victory over the University of St. Thomas (TX), 8-1.

LETU got out to a hot start, taking all three doubles positions. Jonah McGinty and Andres Urretia kicked things off at No. 3, taking down Jeremiah Hoover and Jason Clark, 8-0. Ryan Holloway and Nathan Schmidt won at the second slot, defeating Carson Steele and Andrew True, 8-1. Holloway and Schmidt finish the regular season 14-3 in doubles play. At line one, Rodrigo Vazquez and Miles Grubbs fell to Tyler Head and Jace Ware, 8-2.

The Jackets stung the Celts in singles action, tallying points in all six positions.

Vazquez took care of business at the top flight, beating Head, 6-4, 6-4. Holloway followed Vazquez in the second spot, taking down Ware, 6-4, 6-4. After leading 3-0 in the first set, Schmidt defeated True by retirement at No. 3. At line four, Grubbs won against Steele, 6-0, 6-2. Urretia tallied his fifth singles victory of the season, winning at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2. Golladay cruised by Clark in the sixth spot, 6-0, 6-0.

The YellowJackets finished the regular season 9-8 overall and carry a three-match winning streak heading into the American Southwest Conference Championships. The ASC Championships are set to be held May 5-8. Location and opponents to be announced.
