Women's Tennis Racks Up Wins at ITA Regional

ABILENE, Texas -- The LeTourneau women's tennis team piled up 20 wins over the weekend at the annual ITA Southwest Regional tournament, hosted by Hardin-Simmons.

The YellowJackets had 16 singles victories and four more in doubles play on the weekend. Elizabeth Moreau led the way with four total wins (three in singles, one in doubles), while Anatole Hurta and Grace Rogers had three apiece between singles and doubles play.

Moreau advanced to the championship round of her singles consolation bracket with three victories. She took down a pair of Mary Hardin-Baylor opponents, including Amelia Powell in the semifinals, sandwiched around a victory over Hardin-Simmons' Lane Blankenship in the quarterfinals.

Hurta also reached the finals of her bracket draw. The freshman defeated Howard Payne's Mikayla Hernandez in the first round before taking a pair of three-set victories over opponents from St. Thomas and Concordia Texas to get into the championship round.

Rogers and Isa Casso both collected singles wins in the consolation bracket of the main draw. Casso won twice over foes from McMurry and Trinity to reach the quarterfinals, while Rogers had a three-set win over Schreiner's Rachel Rompel.

Emma Boulanger, Brandy Weems, and Caroline Marshall also picked up singles wins on the weekend.

In doubles, Rogers and Megan LeBlanc teamed up to advance to the quarterfinals of the main draw. The tandem opened the draw with an 8-2 win over Schreiner's Mackenzie Griffin and Rompel before earning an 8-4 victory against Hardin-Simmons' Taja Lawrence and Laurel Coleman in the round of 16.

Moreau and Boulanger defeated McMurry's McKenzie Carroll and Emilee Dominguez, 8-6, in the first round of their draw. Clara Brisman Taylor and Weems also collected a win in the same draw with their 8-4 victory over Texas Lutheran's Ashleigh Lindstrom and Allie Spreyer.
