ABILENE, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's tennis team collected 17 wins and a bracket title over the weekend at the ITA Southwest tournament, hosted by Hardin-Simmons.
The YellowJackets had 14 singles victories and three in doubles play.
LeTourneau had three players in the main singles draw (
Chase Rogers,
Zach Farris,
Andrew Reiman) and all three advanced into the second round. Rogers took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor's Fernando Andrade while
Zach Farris was a 6-1, 6-1 win over McMurry's Nicolas Villalovos, and Reiman was victorious in three sets over East Texas Baptist's Sam Black by a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 final.
Rogers then advanced to the round of 16 after a three-set win over Jaco Snyman of East Texas Baptist 7-6(3), 2-6, 10-4.Â
Fernando Vazquez and
Diego Maldonado each took wins in Flight B. After dropping first round matches, both took consolation bracket round wins. Vazquez defeated Hardin-Simmons' Jameson Sorrell 6-1, 6-1 and Maldonado took down Mary Hardin-Baylor's Jason Blattner 6-2, 7-6(2).
In Flight D, a pair of YellowJackets went through the bracket and then faced each other in the finale.
Timothy Black and
Brayden Money both won three matches to reach the championship round and then faced on another. Black outlasted Money in three sets 2-6, 7-6(2), 11-9 to capture the draw title.
Rogers and Farris teamed up in the main draw for doubles and defeated Howard Payne's Nicolas Gates and Riley Harker, 8-4, in the first round before falling, 8-6, in the round of 16 to Trinity's Kishan Kersten and Rocco Mendez.
Maldonado and
Hayden Harry won each of their first two matches in Flight B before narrowly falling in the quarterfinals.
UP NEXT
LeTourneau will begin its spring season in February.
