DALLAS -- The Ernie Banks-Bobby Bragan DFW Chapter of the Society of American Baseball Research (SABR) named LeTourneau baseball senior
Dane Jones as its co-winner of the 13th annual Carroll Beringer College Division Player of the Year Award, announced the organization on Tuesday.
The prestigious collegiate baseball award honors the memory of longtime DFW SABR president Carroll Beringer, a former big league pitching coach who was a major supporter of college baseball in the area. The college division award is given to the top non-Division I player in the Dallas metroplex, which extends to East Texas.
Jones, a senior from Keller, Texas, received All-America laurels from the American Baseball Coaches Association (second team) and D3baseball.com (fourth team). He became the first LeTourneau player to receive All-America kudos since the 1990 season.
Jones was arguably the best hitter in the ASC and one of the top in the region in 2024. He broke a program-record with 20 home runs on the year to go with 47 RBIs, a .401 batting average, a 1.392 OPS, 55 hits, 40 runs scored, and an .883 slugging percentage. He led the ASC in homers and was fourth in Division III and set a program game record with three home runs against Hardin-Simmons on April 19. His 41 career homers also broke an all-time program record.
Jones was fifth in Division III with his .883 slugging percentage, which also set a program season record. He led the YellowJackets with 17 multi-hit games, 11 multi-RBI games and had a 16-game reached base streak during the year. Jones had walk-off home runs against Concordia Texas (March 17) and Lyon (March 19). Additionally, he had a stretch of five consecutive games with a home run this season, while hitting six homers during the streak.
Jones was a two-time ASC Hitter of the Week honoree during the year. He earned D3baseball.com Team of the Week accolades and was the NCBWA Division III National Hitter of the Week once. Jones is the first player in program history to earn four All-Region honors in a career.
His outfield play was also award worthy. Jones had four outfield assists this season and has eight outfield assists over the last two seasons.
Over the last two seasons, Jones hit .382 with 35 home runs and 94 RBIs. He was part of a LeTourneau team this season that tied the program's NCAA-era record for homers in a year with 44.
Jones was named the LeTourneau Male Student-Athlete of the Year for 2023-24 and earned ASC Scholar-Athlete Medal of Honor recognition.
