SAN ANTONIO, Texas --
Diego Maldonado and
Fernando Vazquez reached the semifinals of their doubles bracket and
Kalvin Dryman won his consolation bracket to highlight the LeTourneau men's tennis team at the ITA Southwest Regional over the weekend in San Antonio.
LeTourneau earned 12 singles wins and four on the doubles side during the annual tournament.
Maldonado and Vazquez teamed up to reach the semifinals of the Flight B draw and go 3-1 overall. The tandem defeated Jackson Leslie and Vincent Carney of Texas Lutheran, 8-5, in the first round and earned an 8-3 decision over East Texas Baptist's Carson Crow and Drew Van Wyk in round two.
In the quarterfinals, Maldonado and Vazquez squeezed past Hardin-Simmons' Gavin Hail and Joshua Miller to reach the semifinals. The duo gave Mary Hardin-Baylor's Braxton Jett and Sam Rahm all they could handle in the semifinals before falling, 8-6.
Dryman picked up three wins en route to a consolation bracket title. The freshman lost in three sets in his Flight C opener, but responded with wins in the consolation side. He defeated Hunter Crim of McMurry, 6-3, 6-0 in the quarterfinals and then earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Parker Hoel of Howard Payne in the semifinals. In the final round, Dryman outlasted McMurry's Jorge Estrada in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 10-8.
Zach Farris and
Andrew Reiman each earned wins in the main draw of singles. Farris knocked off Daniel Beckles of Concordia Texas in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 11-9 in the opening round, while Reiman was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Hardin-Simmons' Brandon Curiel in his first round match.Â
Timothy Black and
Hayden Harry each had two wins in their singles bracket. Harry won 7-5, 6-1 over McMurry's Isaac Gutierrez in round one of the Flight D bracket, while Black was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Crow. In the second round, Harry won 6-4, 6-3 against Howard Payne's Luke Fleming and Black took a 6-4, 6-7(3), 10-5 win over Concordia's Graham Beevers.
Black and Harry also teamed up for a doubles win. The duo took down Gutierrez and Estrada of McMurry by an 8-3 final.
Brayden Money, Vazquez, and Maldonado recorded one singles win each.
