CLAREMONT, Calif. -- Senior
David Dugan ended his cross country career with a 41st-place finish at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday morning.
Dugan, from Oswego, Oregon, ran a season-best 26:35.7 in the muddy 8,000 meter race in Claremont, with the 41st-place landing being his career-best.Â
"This race was the culmination of 4 years of work for David!", said head coach
Kevin Gideon. "He showed experience and navigated the mud and difficult course very well. With conditions as bad as they were, your pacing plan goes out the window and you have to run off effort and he gauged his perfectly today! I'm very proud of the race he put together!"
"That was a real cross country race: mud, falls, tight turns, absolute chaos.", Dugan added. "There was no chance to let my guard down today. It was a huge gift to have run as well as I did, not to mention getting through without getting tripped up! I was happy to compete and will be ready to gear up for track after some time off."
Dugan concludes his cross country career having recorded multiple record-book worthy times in a variety of races, including his program record in the three mile (15:34.4), while also adding three All-Conference nods and an SCAC Elite 19 award this season.
Dugan and the cross country squad will now begin gearing up for indoor track season, beginning January 17.
